Our earth is the only known planet in the universe that supports life. Our planet has plenty of water. In fact water covers more than 70% of the earth’s surface but only 1% of the earth’s water is potable. And that to have got polluted, thanks to careless industrialization and bombardment of human population. Rapid industrialization has taken its toll. Discharge of industrial wastes into the rivers has badly affected the quality of drinking water. You can easily find hundreds of harmful chemical compounds in water. Excess use of water has further added woes to the mammoth-sized pollution.
Man needs 2-3 litres of water daily to maintain a healthy body. You will be surprised to know that our body is nearly 70% water. A human embryo is 80% water. Our liver is whopping 96% water. Water helps in metabolism and cleaning of waste products from our body. It helps us in reducing weight as water being calorie-free acts as an appetite suppressant. Though there are many water filter companies who are selling good quality water filters but that cannot be the solution. What about the poor people who cannot afford water filters? Should we leave them in front of the devil like pollution? The need of the hour is to force Government to take necessary steps to protect people from water pollution. And also Government should allocate adequate funds to agencies involved in cleaning our life nourishing rivers.
